Objectives of Dionysos Satellite Observatory
The main objective of Dionysos Satellite Observatory (DSO) is to serve the educational and research needs of the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, in the fields of satellite geodesy and related technologies as well as their applications.
To fulfill its mission, Dionysos Satellite Observatory:
- Develops and participates in the teaching and research programs of both the Laboratories of Geodesy and DSO
- Develops and coordinates new research programs for the methodological, theoretical and scientific development of the relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the School of Rural Surveying Engineering of NTUA
- Actively participates in the cooperation with l Greek and foreign research centers, academic institutions, scientific and other bodies, whose scientific objectives are relevant or complementary with those of DSO
Specifically, DSO's contribution to Geodesy, is focused on :
-
Continuous GNSS and DORIS stations/beacons used for oberving artificial satellites.
-
Appication of ground and satellite geodetic techniques to monitor crustal deformation.
-
Applications of GNSS & SAR on control networks and the estimation of deformation and/or velocity fields.
-
Applications of GNSS techniques on control networks, topography and altimetry.
-
Gravity data collection and analysis for determining the shape and size of Earth.
-
GPS applications on maritime geodesy and navigation.
